Directions to workshops

6:00 pm. Monroe Hall, Room 104

Presented by Dr. Janet Wishner

The feminism in islam workshop will cover concepts central to ethical discussions in our society that are curiously absent in similar discussions among traditionally-oriented thought in the middle east. Such concepts include secularism, individualism, human rights, woman's rights, individuality, and self-rule. Dr. Wishner will discuss some social and religious reasons for these differences, with special referance to women and the family.

Janet Wishner recieved a BA from Leeds Univerisy, an MA from London University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She taught philosophy at Mary Washington College from 1969 to 1992, and retired to travel in the middle east and central asia.
